You hear in the news all the time of riders unfortunately becoming victims when taking an Uber or Lyft. Down below is a list of four things a rider can do to be safe the next time they take an Uber or Lyft.
1. Look before your get in
Both Uber and Lyft give you a picture of your driver, along with the make, model and license plate number. Also, some drivers will have the Lyft AMP or Uber Beacon. That lights up different colors, Uber and Lyft will both notify you of the color to look for in your app along their other info.
Also, on busy nights like a Friday or Saturday please be patent on your driver to get to your location. Don’t walk up to driver waiting outside a bar an ask if you can pay them cash to take you somewhere for one, they could be a fake Uber and Lyft driver. Two they likely already have a fare.
2. Share My Trip
Both Uber and Lyft have a feature that will allow users to share their location with friends. Using this feature will allow them to see your exact location and what route the driver is taking, also notifies them when you arrive at your location.

3. Follow the ride with your own GPS
Follow the ride with your own GPS, especially when you’re in cities you are unfamiliar with. Doing this will make sure your driver is on the right route and taking you where you want to go, instead of somewhere you don’t.
4. Ride in a group
Going out drinking with your friends? Not only does Uber and Lyft both recommend traveling in a group for your late night partying. It’s the safest thing for those riders who are so drunk they can barley walk, and please don’t call an Uber or Lyft for your heavily intoxicate friend and throw in the back seat alone.
