What Is Google Maps?
Google Maps is a web mapping platform and consumer application offered by Google. It offers satellite imagery, aerial photography, street maps, 360° interactive panoramic views of streets (Street View), real-time traffic conditions, and route planning for traveling by foot, car, bike, air (in beta) and public transportation. As of 2020, Google Maps was being used by over 1 billion people every month around the world.
How Google Maps Works For iPhone or iPad Users
Get Directions And Show Routes
- On your iPhone or iPad open the Google Maps app.
- Search For your destination or tap it on the map.
- Then tap on directions in the bottom left.
- Choose on the following:
- Driving.
- Transit.
- Walking.
- Ride.
- Bicycle.
- Flight.
- To get the list of directions for driving, walking, or biking, click on the three lines one the bottom left.
Add Multiple Destinations
- Once you have the Google Maps app open on your iPhone or iPad search for your destination or tap it on the map.
- In the bottom left, tap directions.
- On the top right, tap the three dots next to your location. Then click add stop.
- When you are finished, tap done.
- Note: You can add up to 9 stops.

Avoid Tolls And Highways
- Once you’ve opened up the Google Maps app on your iPhone or iPad, search for you destination or tap it on the map.
- In the bottom left tap directions.
- At the top tap driving.
- In the top right, tap on the three dots, then go to route options.
- Turn on avoid tolls or highways.
Turn Eco-friendly Routing On Or Off
- Once you’ve opened up the Google Maps app on your iPhone or iPad, tap on your profile picture initial.
- Then click on settings and go to navigation settings.
- Scroll to route options and tap prefer fuel-efficient routes.
Change Starting Point
- Once you’ve opened the Google Maps app on your iPhone or iPad, search for your destination or tap it on the app.
- In the bottom left, tap directions. To edit your starting point, go to the box at the top of the screen and tap your location.
How Google Maps Works For Android Users
Get Directions And Show Routes
- On your Android phone or tablet open Google Maps.
- Search for your destination or tap it on the map.
- In the bottom left, tap directions.
- Choose of the following:
- Driving.
- Motorcycle.
- Transit.
- Walking.
- Rides.
- Cycling.
- Flight.
- To get the list of directions, tap the bar at the bottom that shows travel time and distance.
Add Multiple Destinations
- Once you’ve opened up the Google Maps app on your Android or tablet, search for your destination or tap it on the map.
- On the bottom left, tap directions.
- At the top right, tap on the three dots, then click add stops.
- Once the stops have been added click done.
- Note: You can add up to 9 stops.

- On your computer open Google Maps.
- Click directions.
- Click points on the map, type and address, or add a place name.
- Choose one of the following:
- Driving.
- Transit.
- Walking.
- Cycling.
- Flight.
Add Multiple Stops
- On your computer open up Google Maps.
- Click directions.
- Add a starting point and a destination.
- On the left, below the destinations you entered, click add.
- To add a stop, choose another destination.
- To continue adding stops, repeat steps 4 and 5.
- Click on route to get the directions.
Avoid Tolls And Highways
- On your computer, open Google Maps.
- Click directions.
- Click points on the map. type an address or add a place name.
- Choose options.
- Check the box next to tolls or highways.
How To Send Directions To Your Phone Or Tablet On Google Maps
- On your computer, open Google Maps.
- Click directions, then enter your desired location.
- On the map, select a route from the options provided.
- In the left menu, click details, then go to send to your phone.
